Announcement: Petition for Permanent Parkets

What is a Parklet?

Parklets are street parking spaces that have been converted into places for pedestrian recreation.  Borne from a single act of design activism, Parklets have flourished during the time of Covid as a means for businesses to serve a clientele they otherwise wouldn't be able to.

The spaces are inviting, creative, and attractive to both visitors and locals.  Parklets create an excitement, showing the town is vibrant with people, connection, and commerce.

The Stakes.

Currently, Sebastopol's Parklets are under a temporary Caltrans permit that expires on February 28, 2022.  It was made clear the permit would not be extended once it expires.  At that time, all Parklets would be required to close and convert back to street parking.

Permanent Parklet spaces would allow our small businesses to further invest in the pedestrian experience and to more fully showcase the unique creativity that Sebastopol is known for.  This in turn would generate more interest and use of the spaces and their associated businesses.  It's a win-win.

How You Can Help.

Sign the Change.org petition to the Sebastopol City Council to make the Parklets a permanent part of the downtown core.  Let them hear your voice of support for this important initiative that aligns with Sebastopol's uniqueness that makes it a special place to live and visit, as well as benefits our small business community.

We welcome you to forward this message with your friends and contacts to let them know how they, too, can help.  Because art matters!
